Companies spend lots of money to have their commercials shown on Super Bowl Sunday. If they are going to spend that kind of money they need to know what they are doing works….right? That’s why it is good to take a closer look at what they do and use some of the strategies in our own business. As an online entrepreneur I’m always looking for ways to improve my marketing.
Budweiser Super Bowl 2015 Commercial
Budweiser always produces great super bowl commercials. This commercial is emotionally driven appealing toward our maternal instincts. It creates emotions such as fear, lonely, sad, scared, worried, and eventually happy. Notice how you get goose bumps when you see the man with the Budweiser hat putting flyers up and then you immediately see the puppy finding shelter from the rain. This marketing strategy targets people who have lost something or someone important to them. In this case a puppy represents the Clydesdale’s friend. A cute vulnerable puppy that needs protection has been lost. Then just as he makes his way home a big bad wolf comes as a final obstacle. The Clydesdales come running to save the day, yet another goose bump producing experience.
Doritos Super Bowl 2015 Commercial
This Doritos commercial is geared more toward being funny. Although, I personally didn’t find this super bowl commercial to be fantastic by any measure, it did make me think of how good Doritos taste. The cave man tries to figure out exactly what Doritos are useful for and though the cave man ended up being a phenomenal artist he would fail as a comedian.
2015 GoDaddy Super Bowl XLIX Commercial
GoDaddy followed the example of Budweiser and went with a lost puppy commercial but with a surprising twist. Against all odds this puppy finally makes it back home just to be shipped off. This doesn’t produce the best emotions but it does surprise the viewer and some may find it amusing. Because of the surprising twist at the end GoDaddy will be remembered however, they may be producing the wrong vibe… betrayal.
2015 Doritos Super Bowl XLIX Commercial
Here is another Doritos commercial and I believe a much better one than the cave man Doritos commercial. This endearing little girl figures out the secret to selling more lemonade. Here amazing entrepreneurial mindset leverages the desirable Doritos to sell her lemonade. Emotionally it is funny and happy.
2015 Wix.com Super Bowl XLIX Commercial
Wix.com uses a well know football player to demonstrated that anyone can use their website to build a website and if you do you will be like Brett Favre. Similar to the GoDaddy commercial this one has entrepreneurial aspects as well. Although Wix.com is an easy way to build a good looking website I disagree it’s best way for business owners to build a website, here’s why. Wix.com’s encouraging commercial wants it’s viewer to feel happy, joyful and excited.
Carl’s Jr. Super Bowl 2015 Commercial
This sex driven commercial promotes Carl Jr.’s all natural hamburger. There is nothing all natural about any hamburger in a fast food restaurant but we aren’t going to go into that on this post. We see a beautiful woman who appears to be naked and walking around a farmers market. Carl Jr. is obviously targeting men in this commercial. The sexual drive men have usually causes certain things to happen that correlate perfectly with hunger and food. Men’s saliva glands will usually activate when they see a sexual image and this also happens when we see food we crave. I’m not going to go into much more detail because I think we get the point…. sex sells.
2015 Old Spice Super Bowl XLIX Commercial
This Old Spice commercial is intense and apparently they are selling electric razors now. This guy yells loud which puts it’s views in a flight or flight state. This cause your heart rate to rise and produces feelings of excitement and urgency.
Mercedes Benz Super Bowl 2015 Commercial
Mercedes Benz is using the classic tale of the Tortes And The Hair to demonstrate good decision. We all have heard the classic tale and we already know the tortes will when but how he does it is different. This animated commercial produces feelings of excitement. We all like watching the race even if we know who is going to win. Obviously Mercedes Benz wants the views to believe they will be smart, cool and a winner if they get this car. Notice how the tortes gets the cool car, the girl and the satisfaction of winning.
2015BMW i3 Super Bowl XLIX Commercial
This BMW commercial focuses on future forecasting. They are trying to get the views to believe that the technology they have in their new car the BMW i3 will be as common as the internet. BMW wants the views to feel excited about something new and the security that it’s not just a fad that will come and go.
